HMRC App Speeds up Student Loan Applications
Money, not grades, is the main barrier to university for many teens in the UK.
Students are encouraged to download the HMRC app to speed up their student loan applications. With many A-level students planning their next steps in life, those starting university in September can ‘tap the app’ to get the National Insurance and tax information they need to complete their student finance applications, HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has said.
Anyone applying for a student loan for the 2024 to 2025 academic year is encouraged to start their application now and to get the essential details they need, including their National Insurance (NI) number, quickly and easily via the HMRC app.
Is Uni Worth It?
Getting a degree is expensive, but does uni pay for itself through higher future earnings? One of the greatest costs of going to university is the course itself. Most students take out loans to pay for their undergraduate tuition, and many will leave university owing money. The Student Loans Company says graduates in England leave university with average debts of £44,940. In general, most graduates can expect to earn more than non-graduates, according to the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA).
However, it suggests the extra money earned from a university education has declined.
Lapworth Museum of Geology Voted the City’s ‘Best Hidden Gem’ and It’s Free.
Birmingham's best-hidden gem ended up as Lapworth Museum of Geology, based within the University of Birmingham's campus - inside the Aston Webb Building, off the A38 Bristol Road in Edgbaston.
Edgbaston proved to be a hotspot for day-trippers with three of Birmingham's top seven hidden gems in the affluent suburb.
It dates back to 1880 and is one of the oldest specialist geological museums in the UK with dinosaurs, fossils, skulls, axes and age-old maps. The kind of place Indiana Jones would feel at home, there are more than 250,000 displays to enjoy for all ages and it's all completely free.
Tips on Getting Your Tenancy Deposit Back When Leaving the Property
Check The Inventory:
An inventory usually contains all the items that were in the property when you moved in and their condition. Carefully check the inventory at the beginning of your tenancy and if possible, ask the landlord to share a copy with you. This will be useful when you finish your tenancy. If any items from the list are missing or damaged, this might have an impact on your deposit.

Try and be open, honest and communicative with your landlord or letting agent regarding any damages to the property during your tenancy. If there is damage resulting from your negligence, you’ll likely want to repair it and notify the landlord. If it is something like a TV antenna falling from the top of the roof, then that is nothing intentionally caused by you and is therefore the landlord’s responsibility. Read More
Understanding Fair Wear & Tear
Ideally, your landlord should not withhold your deposit for fair wear and tear. Examples of fair wear and tear can include faded paint, minor scuffs on the walls, dirty curtains, worn-out carpet on the stairs in a house, etc. Your deposit can only be deducted for actual damage such as broken furniture resulting from negligence or even failure to pay your rent.
