Rent Swallows Up Average Maintenance Loan as Student Accommodation Market Reaches ‘Crisis Point’
Rents for student accommodation have increased by an average of 14.6% over the past two academic years, according to a new report from Unipol and HEPI, meaning they now swallow up nearly all of the average maintenance loan.
The average rent also equates to more than three-quarters (76%) of the maximum maintenance loan.
Hearing Bad Grammar Causes Stress According to Study
According to a study conducted on 41 adults at The University of Birmingham, hearing bad grammar results in physical signs of stress.
The study showed that the more grammatical errors a person hears, the more irregular their heartbeat becomes, and the more stressed they get.
A heart rate monitor was attached to each participant and took 2048 samples a second. Results show there is a clear link between cardiovascular response and grammatical errors.
Students Protest Over ”Appalling” Accommodation Conditions
Students have staged a protest over what they claim are "appalling" accommodation conditions and their "extortionate rent".
Students complain of showers not working, poor heating and broken plug sockets. "You have to question what the extortionate rent we're actually paying goes towards", says a student.
