The University of Birmingham Celebrates 125 Years (And Counting) of World-Changing Research To mark the University of Birmingham’s 125th anniversary The Exchange is inviting Brummies to explore some of the homegrown research that has changed, and is changing, how the world works. This programme will explore the University’s connection to its home city Birmingham through five key themes:
Our Health Our Young People Our Money Our Environment Our Culture
"The Exchange will be showcasing some of the most impactful pieces of research in our installations, but also giving visitors the opportunity to get involved and share their views on important topics for Birmingham and the wider world throughout 2025. We look forward to welcoming people to The Exchange to mark 125 years and counting of world-changing history." - Simon Cane, UoB

Professor Deborah Longworth, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) said: “The University of Birmingham is an exciting place to be. Our continuing success in the QS World University Rankings highlights that, in both Birmingham and Dubai, we continue to deliver the highest quality academic experience - stretching and challenging our students to achieve a degree that will enhance professional opportunities around the world, and to contribute to society as leaders, innovators, and global citizens.”
Award-winning students from the University of Birmingham have created innovative ways to tackle global sustainability challenges, including reducing waste from festivals, and promoting biodiversity.
There were 14 teams from around the world in the final, which took place in December 2024, including teams from the UK, US, South Africa, Columbia, China, Italy, Austria and Ukraine. Three out of ten Birmingham teams were selected by an international panel to be finalists and presented their work at an awards ceremony.
Some weeks at university feel like a breeze while others will be deadline hell. Reduce this by ensuring you have effective time management methods in place such as timetables and reminders so that you don't fall behind on what's due.
Sometimes when we learn new concepts we may need a little extra help and that's totally okay and normal for everybody! Don't be afraid to ask lecturers or peers for some help when you need it. You never know, you may make some great friends doing this.
While it may seem obvious to some, ensuring that you attend all the classes you can and catch up on the ones you had missed is crucial to your progress at university. Sick days do happen, its about what you do to catch up is what matters!
